Newsletter September 2026
Most Western Christians aren’t aware of the Feast of Creation celebrated on September 1st. It has been a long time celebration in Orthodox Christian churches since the 5th century. The purpose is to celebrate God as creator of the universe. We will celebrate this Christian holiday on Sunday, September 6 at our outdoor service.
The Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - was present at creation. Christ gifts us abundant life in the waters of baptism. Throughout the Bible water is a symbol of life. Where there is water there is abundant life. The prophet Ezekiel speaks of a river that flows from the temple and that everything will spring to life as the water reaches them providing food through fish from the river and fruit from the trees that line the banks. The Book of Revelation speaks of the same river flowing from the temple and producing a tree that bears fruit for the healing of the nations. Once again we hear about the abundance of life. This tree produces fruit every month. Famine doesn’t exist anymore. There is no shortage of food. There is abundant life and it is for all the nations.
This summer we have been blessed with abundant rain. After a series of drier summers this has been a welcome relief for gardeners and farmers. We know that the weather will dry out for a while and allow the crops to prepare for harvest and yet we know that after the blessing of the harvest we will also be blessed with winter snow which does its own job of watering the earth. As the writer of Ecclesiastes says, “A time for every purpose under heaven.”
May your autumn be blessed
