Dear Trinity Family,

While I was at my Continuing Education Event in April, I heard a fantastic talk about laity.  Our speaker reminded us of a familiar song that those of us who attended the National Youth Gatherings in the 80’s remembered singing with gusto!   It was a song by Jay Beach and the title was “The Church Song”.   If you are familiar with it you may be humming it now… if not let me share the words of this powerful song with you.

We are the church, the body of our Lord;

we are all God's children. We have been restored.

The church is not a building where people go to pray; it's not made out of stick and stones, it's not made out of clay.

You can go to worship but you cannot go to church; you can't find a building that's alive no matter how you search.

The church is not a business, a committee or a board; it's not a corporation for the business of the Lord.

The church, it is the people living out their lives,

called, enlightened, sanctified for the work of Jesus Christ.

We are the church, the body of our Lord;

we are all God's children. We have been restored.

This got me thinking… How are we doing beloved church?  How are we doing at being church?  How do we spend our time?  Our money?  Our energies being church.  When you think of church where is your focus?   Where is our focus?   At my continuing education event we were challenged to consider our ideals - but even more importantly what are God’s ideals for God’s church?   What do you think?  I invite you to take some time and reflect on this.  This summer we will take some time for intentional discussion and reflection.  Who is God calling our church to be in our community and the world?  And how God is calling us (Trinity Lutheran) and YOU to be the church.
